Volunteering at the CAB

90% of staff within the CAB service are volunteers who give their time freely to help their local communities. Why do they do it? Many volunteers enjoy the challenge and the sense of accomplishment that comes from helping the most disadvantaged and excluded members of the community. For others there are opportunities for self-development that arise from working in a professional environment. Others still, simply enjoy making new friends and working together with other like-minded volunteers towards common goals.

There are many different volunteer roles within the CAB service, all of which can offer varied and interesting work.

  • Advising: All of our advisers undergo an extensive training programme in order to enable them to deal with enquiries from the public. This is varied and challenging work and while advisers do not need formal qualifications or experience they do need need to be patient, tolerant, good listeners and be prepared to learn and challenge their own attitudes.
  • Administrative Support: These are the behind the scenes staff who are vital in us being able to deliver our services. The work can involve updating information, filing, typing, research or special projects.
  • Management Committees: Herefordshire CABx is a charitable company limited by guarantee. As such it has a board of directors who are also charity trustees and they have overall responsibility for the service. Committee members need to take important decisions about finance, staff, premises and the underlying strategy of the service. Members need to either be elected at the AGM or have relevant experience and management skills.

The roles we are looking to find volunteers for varies from time to time, depending on the demands of the service. For full details of the latest roles, please click the link on the left.
